Manhattan Trio was founded in 1998 by three young motivated artists; Matt Raschka,
Scott Wray and Eileen Snyder. The three were college classmates and buddies
at Salisbury State University. The name "Manhattan Trio" comes from a story
from their college days.
In Advertising Design class at SSU, the trio's professor told the class that
the school's administration had requested that the students design a poster
for a Manhattan Quintet that was coming to campus. The professor assigned the
job and said the class would vote on the finished designs and select a
winner. The class voted that it was a tie between Scott and Eileen's design
concept, and the professor sent all the posters to the administration with
the class's recommendation. The school administration chose Matt's design to
advertise the Quintet's performance on campus.
Years went by and Eileen went to work for a company in D.C., showing her
Manhattan Quintet poster in her portfolio during her interview saying it
was the winning design. She got the job and a year later she recommended
Scott for an open design position at the company. During his
interview, Scott showed his "winning" poster design as part of his
portfolio. He got the job and several months later he recommended Matt for
another open design position. During his interview Matt showed his poster
exclaiming, "my poster was chosen and printed."
Both Scott and Eileen's interviewer looked at each other and
questioned, "haven't we seen this before? What kind of contest was
this where everybody wins?" Matt hurdled this uncomfortable moment and
still managed to get the job.
Now that the three were reunited again, this time in a professional setting
an idea was spawned. They all had the idea that with their collective
knowledge and talent, they could start a business that would satisfy the
needs of a growing number of companies that could not find superior design
services combined with conscientious service at an affordable price. Manhattan
Trio was born and named after the story of their reunion.
Since then, Eileen has become a wife and mother of 3 and is 100% focused on
those responsibilities. Matt and Scott kept the name because they had built a
reputation for quality, and now consider their clients as the third element
in the trio.
